Imagine, for just 2 seconds, that your life hangs in the balance and the only people that can save you from certain death, are complete strangers.

I do not have to imagine it, I live it - everyday. Instead of being a victim of a rare blood disorder or the survivor of a near death experience, I choose to be a LIVING TESTIMONY of the need for blood donors. As an advocate and spokesperson working with the nation's two largest blood collection organizations, I hope to connect donors to the lives they save through education, encouragement and open communication. Together, we can save lives, one pint at a time.

Every 2 seconds, someone requires a blood transfusion to live.

That's why "It's Hip 2 Give!"

Have You Voted?

For a few months I have had a Donation Poll in the right-hand column of the blog, now some visitors have voted, but knowing the number of daily/monthly visitors, I know that many visitors have not voted.

I have noticed, however, that there are quite a few people out there that are unable to donate - or have never donated. To that I pose a question, what are the reasons you can't donate (assuming it's health or travel related) and why haven't you donated yet?

In the coming months I will offer suggestions to the new donors and perhaps insight for those that are unable to donate - but I do recommend that the best information on donation comes from the donation sites directly or your general physician.

If you haven't vote, take a moment to do so and if you have, thank you for taking the time. Learning more about those that visit the blog is just as important as learning more about donating.
