Imagine, for just 2 seconds, that your life hangs in the balance and the only people that can save you from certain death, are complete strangers.

I do not have to imagine it, I live it - everyday. Instead of being a victim of a rare blood disorder or the survivor of a near death experience, I choose to be a LIVING TESTIMONY of the need for blood donors. As an advocate and spokesperson working with the nation's two largest blood collection organizations, I hope to connect donors to the lives they save through education, encouragement and open communication. Together, we can save lives, one pint at a time.

Every 2 seconds, someone requires a blood transfusion to live.

Calling All Girl Scouts!

Virginia Blood Services is introducing the Girl Scout Patch Program for Blood Drives!

(from the VBS Website)

Developing future blood donors and providing service to your community.

For Daisy Girl Scouts (ages 5-6), Brownie Girl Scouts (ages 6-8), Junior Girl Scouts (ages 8-11), and STUDIO 2B SM for girls ages 11-17.

Blood is urgently needed and there is still NO SUBSTITUTE for it. Patients with cancer, heart disease and injuries from accidents need it every day. Last year, central Virginia patients required the blood from more than 100,000 blood donations

VBS is currently looking for GS Leaders to become Blood Drive Coordinators. This will help your troop, VA residents and your community. Visit www.vablood.org to learn more!

It's Hip 2 Give has a new logo!

I'm so excited to release the new logo for the blog and for our "Gear"! Tiffany Rice, graphic artist extrodinaire and wonderful friend, designed our new logo that you will be seeing on the blog, gear, and soon-to-be website. Be on the lookout for "Blood Gear" and see where you can get yours!

Appearances, Computers & Life Oh My!

Well, the last month has been an adventure to say the least!

Many appearances and blood drives visited, a sick computer that was with the good "doc" for a week, and final paperwork due to Beauties of America.

A few notes from the past weeks: I had the opportunity to attend the Virginia International Send-off Party. Jennifer Phillips, Mrs. VA International, Ashley Dixon, Miss VA Int'l, and Victoria Goldberg, Miss Teen VA Int'l were honored during a sweet gathering of friends and family. These wonderful ladies are representing my homestate in Chicago and I'm positive they will do well!

I even had the opportunity to catch up with Joy Pfister, dear friend, director for NC International, and a former BOA national titleholder. It's always such a treat to see old friends, meet new ones, and support the ladies from the Old Dominion.

The absolute best news of the month came from the Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the Red Cross! We are currently working on a Video PSA regarding blood donation and we will start filming in August! I am so excited and blessed with this opportunity. Through hard work come great rewards. I look forward to reaching more individuals about the need for donors.
